Mullens' Mortgage Lifter Tomato
Mullens' Mortgage Lifter Tomato
85 days, indeterminate — The regular leaf vines of 'Mullens' Mortgage Lifter' produce pink fruit that are oblate-shaped with some ribbing. They range in size from eight to twenty ounces, are juicy, start off with a sweet burst but finish off on the tart side of the flavor spectrum. A very nice beefsteak-type slicing tomato.
'Mullens' Mortgage Lifter' was sent to us by Craig LeHoullier who received the seed from Charlotte Mullens of West Virginia in 1990. In her letter to Craig, she said, "My Dad is 84 and my Mom is 74 and for family use they won't grow any other kind."[1] We are working on better stabilizing this variety. It often produces lutescent colored plants. When this happens, it becomes obvious as soon as they develop their first leaves and can be discarded early. We recommend sowing double the amount of seeds and rouging out the off-types. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
