Runner Beans
Phaseolus coccineus
Although related to common beans, runner beans are grown for ornamental, as well as edible purposes. The prolific flowers are beautiful and attract hummingbirds and pollinator insects to the garden. Although the pods are edible, they tend to become fibrous early so they are either harvested at an immature stage, or more typically, it is the seeds that are cooked and eaten, either dried or in the green stage as you would
butterbeans.
