Yellow Ailsa Craig Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3401201

85 days, indeterminate - The regular leaf vines of 'Yellow Ailsa Craig' bear fruit that are globe-shaped, juicy, sweet, weigh two to three ounces each on average, and are as its name implies, yellow in color.

Little is known of the history of 'Yellow Ailsa Craig'. It is presumably a yellow variant of the old English production greenhouse variety simply called 'Ailsa Craig', which was introduced in 1912 and named after a small rocky island off of the west central Scottish coast near Girvan in Ayrshire. Our parent stock source was USDA, ARS accession number PI 289301 and it was listed as being collected in Hungary in 1963.

Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
