45 days. Tokyo Silky Sweet is a Japanese salad turnip known for its sweet flavor and crisp, juicy flesh. The roots have smooth, clean white skin and a squat, round shape. Many people eat them raw like an apple, but they also work well sliced into salads, roasted, pickled, or added to soups.

Roots are wider than they are tall, about 1 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches wide at a typical harvest, and can reach 2 1/2 to 3 inches across. The texture is smooth and snappy, and the flavor is mild and sweet, without the sharp bite of many storage turnips.

Tokyo Silky Sweet handles warm weather better than most turnips. It works well as both a spring and a fall crop. In Japan, small white turnips like this are called kabu. Tokyo Silky Sweet roots are sold as Sweet Kabu in produce markets. The roots contain vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and folate.
