Springston Heirloom Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3404031

95 days, indeterminate - ย The regular leaf plants of 'Springston Heirloom' produce fruit that are oblate-shaped, pink in color, and can get quite large in size, reaching up to twenty ounces each. An excellent slicing tomato.

We received 'Springston Heirloom' from Craig LeHoullier who described the variety as being a, "... nice big pink beefsteak type, really old-fashioned looking, that was shared with me by David Ellis [American Horticultural Society's Director of Communications and Editor of "The American Gardener" magazine]. It was his grandfather's heirloom."
Fruit Color: Pink
Fruit Color: Purple
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60ยฐ to 70ยฐ) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
