Primrose Gage Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3401721

85 days, indeterminate - The foliage of 'Primrose Gage' is an interesting grayish blue-green color. The primrose-yellow fruit are about the size of a golf ball, with soft, almost velvety skin, similar to 'Garden Peach'. It has a distinctly sharp, sweet flavor.

Our initial seed sample was sent to us by David Pendergrass who obtained it from the USDA ARS as accession number PI 91458. The USDA reported that the variety was collected in 1931 by Dobbie & Company, Ltd. of Edinburgh, Scotland who collected the seed, ". . . in a village of a semi-nomadic tribe in the jungle of southern India between 5,000 and 8,000 feet altitude."

Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
