Golden Bison Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3400931

59 Days, determinate - The compact plants of 'Golden Bison' are very productive. The fruit are medium-sized, globe-shaped (slightly flattened), and golden-yellow in color. Some specimens we observed developed a slight blush on the blossom end, like its parents, 'Golden Queen'. They are mild flavored, sweet and juicy.

Bred by Dr. Albert F. Yeager of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station as a stabilized cross between 'Bison' and 'Golden Queen' and released in 1930.[1] Although well adapted to the Great Plains Region, it does well anywhere compact, early maturing plants are desirable.

Fruit Color: Orange
Fruit Color: Yellow
Harvest Timing: Early/Short Season
Growth Habit: Determinate
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★☆☆☆ Sour tomato that looks nice
By Peter B. (Phoenix, AZ) on June 2, 2024

These plants gave a high yield and came early. The tomatoes are on the smaller side varying from cherry tomato size to flat 1/2 baseballs. My low review is because they are a mild, sour flavor. The color is a nice presentation. If you like your tomatoes sour and mild you may like it better than me.

★★★★★ A+ tomato for upstate NY
By Michael Aita (New York) on August 12, 2023

Even in upstate NY with our unpredictable weather extremes, you can expect delicious tomatoes from this variety by mid-July... unheard of here for medium sized tomatoes! Also, these tomatoes taste amazing! Fruity and complex. The plants are relatively disease resistant, the tomatoes rarely crack, and they are good producers. I would call it semi-determinate, as you'll continue to harvest through August.
