Early Bird Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3401361

80 days, indeterminate - The regular leaf plants of 'Early Bird' produce good quantities of nice, tart flavored, pink fruit weighing up to fifteen ounces.

Originally released by Johnson & Stokes of Philadelphia in 1899, they described it as follows:

"Not since the introduction of our 'Atlantic Prize' in 1889 has any new tomato created such a sensation among growers as this one. Its great earliness, fine size, smoothness, firmness, beautiful bright pink skin and wonderful productiveness are far beyond what the most enthusiastic growers ever expected to realize."

Our seed is grown out from USDA, ARS accession number NSL 26949.

Fruit Color: Pink
Fruit Color: Purple
Harvest Timing: Early/Short Season
Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
