Danish Export Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $3.95

SKU: 34031431

70 days, indeterminate - The regular leaf plants are fairly short (3 to 4 feet) but somewhat sprawling, moderately productive, and early maturing. Its fruit are relativly uniform, weigh between 2 to 4 ounces, are smooth, red in color, globe to flattened-globe in shape, very juicy and tasty. It has an excellent flavor that is balanced between tart and sweet. The tartness hits the pallat immediately, but its sweetness lingers. When processed, for example into sauce or salsa, the sweetness really is enhanced.

'Danish Export' is one of the very few varieties developed in Denmark. It is mentioned in the Nordic Illustrated Encyclopedia of Horticulture in 1912, but the variety is believed to be even older. Our seed originated from USDA Accession Number PI 131888. Their seed were purchased by the USDA from Grimstad Gartneri (1885-1985), from Grimstad, Norway, and entered into their collection on March 10, 1939 as 'Dänsk Eksport'.

Brand new limited release for 2024. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
