110 days — 'Texas Early Grano 502 PRR' is a "Vidalia-type" onion with excellent fresh eating quality. The globes are uniform in shape with a nice straw colored skin. The white flesh delivers a mild to medium pungent flavor. It reportedly exhibits a strong tolerance to Pink Root Rot (PRR).

'Texas Early Grano 502 PRR' was released by the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in 1944. It is an intermediate day variety. Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 200 seeds.

Planting Instructions: Onions have a shallow root system and are adapted for well drained, rich, loam-type soil. Either start seeds indoors, or directly into the garden, in a sunny location, from April to mid-July.

Plant onion seeds ½ inch deep, two to four seeds per inch in rows spaced twelve to sixteen inches apart. Thin the plants to four inches apart to allow the bulbs room to develop. Use thinnings as green onions.

★★★★★ Onions for warmer weather.
By Dan Felice (Central Florida) on October 29, 2024

Going on 3rd year of growing onions. Tried previously and purchased, unknowingly, long term onion seeds that never did anything. With these seeds, these past two years have been good and 2023-24, I had so many onions I gave them away. Matter of fact as I write this, I still have onions in my garage still edible after picking them last April and May. Re-ordering again, best onions we have enjoyed and my onion friends have thoroughly enjoyed again. Photo below. Oh, there were very large onions also; just ate them though.

★★★★★ First Time Planting - Success!

We planted a one-gram packet in raised beds. I had never grown onions from seeds, always slips. I quickly sowed the seed in a small section not thinking they would sprout and was amazed when they did. We harvested about 15 beautiful, medium-sized onions. I am growing them again! I literally did nothing to these seeds after I sowed them. I didn't cover with frost cloth over the winter either. So easy and rewarding!

★★★★★ Love these!

We planted these last year for the first time and they were amazing. Smaller than I expected but the flavor made up for it. I used them in all different types of cooking and they worked well with everything. I even chopped some up and froze them to use for sauteing and they held up great.
