Tennessee Britches Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3401931

95 days, indeterminate - The regular leaf plants of 'Tennessee Britches' provide good leaf coverage and produce huge (up to forty ounces!) pink fruit that are very tasty.

According to his daughter, this variety was raised by Mr. Buckley of Dresden, Tennessee for "as long as she could remember." He passed away back in the early 1990s. It was then maintained by Mr. Joe Atnip who named the variety after his nickname for his daughter when she was young. This rare family heirloom was sent to us by author and tomato authority Craig LeHoullier.
Fruit Color: Pink
Fruit Color: Purple
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ Love the Britches

Every seed I planted sprouted and grew into a large bountiful plant. It fought off the intense Indiana summer heat and humidity. I kept watering and it kept growing. This is truly a winner seed. Great tasting tomato too.

Dense, juicy tomato. Thin delicate skin. Tastes rich and old-fashioned, the way tomatoes ought to taste.
