Taylor Lacey Leaf Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3402021

90 days, indeterminate - Although the name implies something different, 'Taylor Lacey Leaf' plants are a potato leaf sort. They produce large, up to fourteen ounce fruit, that are white colored when ready to eat and a pale yellow when fully ripe. A good slicing tomato.

We received this variety from author and tomato authority Craig LeHoullier in 2005 who simply described it as, "... a curiosity from Canada." It should be noted that although it had a maturity date of 90 to 95 days here in Oregon, in North Carolina it is closer to 70 days.

Craig originally received the variety from a seed saver in British Columbia named Clay Foard. Plant Gene Resources of Canada lists 'Taylor Lacey Leaf' as accession number CN 18770 and note that it was donated to the collection in 1992 by Ernest A. Kerr (Director of Research for Stokes Seeds, Ltd. in St. Catharines, Ontario).
Fruit Color: White
Fruit Color: Green
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
