Sweet Scarlet Dwarf Tomato
Price: $4.45
SKU: 3403441Determinate. 90 days, dwarf - The vigorous, dwarf, rugose, potato leaf plants produce a heavy yield of medium to medium large sized (six to sixteen ounces) oblate, smooth red fruit, possessing a superb, intense, complex flavor – one of the very best flavored of all of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" varieties. Due to the challenge of stabilizing the dominant tomato color (red), don't be surprised if you find an occasional plant producing yellow or orange fruit; be sure to try them, because they will likely be just as delicious.
Developed by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" as a selection out of the "Tipsy family" ('Elbe' and 'Golden Dwarf Champion', cross made by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia). 'Sweet Scarlet Dwarf' was selected and named by Craig LeHoullier. Among those who contributed to stabilizing 'Sweet Scarlet Dwarf' are Jon Schmuck, Susan Oliverson, Michael Volk, Susan Barber, Patrina Nuske Small, Steve McClaren, Marla McClaren, Dee Sackett, Scott Stough, Ginny Bishton, Wendy Montanez, Amanda Fischer, Linda Black, Bobby Whicker, Kathy Wolfe, Paul Fish, Kay Robbins, and Bill Minkey. Introduced in 2015.

Special Groups: Dwarf Tomato Project
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.
Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

Just got my first two Sweet Scarlets. This is my first year growing this tomato. It has been extremely hot and dry which we all know impacts production. They weighed in at 8 ounces and 6 ounces. . Fingers crossed for a few cooler nights and less wind. I would recommend and grow again.

Beautiful & Wonderful tasting tomato. Purchased a 6 inch seedling at local nursery in spring of 2023. I was drawn by its stalky look and potato like leaves. Grew plant in a 10 gallon grow bag in Seattle, WA. Plant itself was very sturdy just needing a single stake. Plant grew to about 45 inches tall. The tomatoes were harvested in two groups ... for 23 total tomatoes. (First group was picked Aug-Sept (10) then picked remainder all at once in 2nd week of October (13) due to rainy weather and let them ripen inside.) The first group of tomatoes were larger and varied from 6oz to almost 13oz (most 7.5 - 11oz). Second group were smaller ... 2oz to 8.5oz. All of the tomatoes were virtually perfect & did not crack. Even those picked green and ripened inside had an excellent taste.
Due to this very positive first experience with Sweet Scarlet, I searched for seeds & found them here. I look forward to growing them this season.

These plants are gorgeous and very healthy! I grew in my raised beds, and I usually get hit with septoria. These aren't showing any signs! The tomatoes are full flavored and taste the way you think a tomato should. Not too sweet, not to tangy, but complex. I like my tomatoes to smack me in the face with flavor, and this one does! This one will be a staple in my garden every year!

Did well as a winter dwarf indoors under lights in pots. Good robust flavor.

Rich tomato flavor in huge fruits - 10oz and much larger. Sweet as its name implies, with a rich, deep, rewarding tang. A favorite of the San Juan County Master Gardeners in a recent tomato tasting. We'll happily grow it again.
