Classified as a Oriental or Turkish type tobacco, 'Smyrna' is aromatic and was historically used for cigarette blending. The plants grows to about fifty-five inches tall when topped, or five to six feet tall when allowed to develop flower heads.

Its downward curling leaves have slightly undulating margins, are broadest at the middle and narrower at the two equal ends, tapering to a pointed apex with more or less straight sides. They average ten inches wide by twenty inches long) and according the USDA tests, it averages 33.5mg of nicotine per gram of cured leaf.
