Russian Red
75 days, dwarf — 'Russian Red' is very hardy and will grow in marginal conditions. Its plants are a dwarf-type with rugose, regular leaves, and reach about five feet high. The fruit are red, small, and juicy delivering a great, balanced flavor. Bred in 1943 at the Levin Agricultural Research Centre (New Zealand), 'Russian Red' was originally released in 1949. Commercially it was not popular as its fruit were considered "too small" for the marketplace. In spite of this, it became the most popular New Zealand home garden variety.
Our original seed was sent to us by our gardening friend in New Zealand, Glenn Parker. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
