Determinate - 70-85 days to maturity. Red Velvet is a compact "micro dwarf tomato" variety that reaches only 6 to 8 inches in both height and width. It's small size makes it perfect for small spaces like windowsills, patio tables, or indoor container gardening. Despite its petite size, Red Velvet produces exceptionally sweet and flavorful fruits, typically ranging from 1/2 inch to 1 inch in diameter.

Unlike many other micro dwarf varieties, Red Velvet benefits from the support of a small stake to help keep the plant upright as it matures. It also prefers slightly drier conditions, so we recommend watering only when the soil feels dry to the touch.

Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ the perfect tomato to grow in a Green Stalk
By Penny Freshwater (Ocala, FL) on June 23, 2026

I must start by saying every seed germinated and every plant has thrived out of this particular package. The little tomatoes are true to form and never got more than seven or 8 inches tall. They went in the top layer of the Green stock.
early in the season, I started seeing leaf miners, so I got some blue sticky pads from Amazon and tied them to steaks in the green stock which got rid of the problem. Later I've been plugged by leaf footed bugs, but when I go out to water in the morning I'm able to knock these insects off into a jar of soapy water not a problem. The taste of this tomato is really good. It's a little on the tart side not overwhelmingly sweet so it's perfect absolutely perfect in salads plus our Golden Retriever thinks to her special treat so she's been picking the bottom layer. Excellent product. I would recommend it for any container you want to plant
