Prue Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $3.95

SKU: 3402031

85 days, indeterminate - The medium-sized fruit of 'Prue' are a good all-purpose type. The plants have leaves can be described as wispy, wilty and droopy and are very productive. The fruit are great flavored, red in color, and in the interesting shape of an elongated heart with a bump or nipple on most of the fruit's blossom end.

An old family heirloom, we received a sample from Craig LeHoullier in 2004. Craig had received the seed in 2002 from Tom Gallucci of Connecticut who in-turn had received the seed from his wife's grandfather, Mr. Prue of Massachusetts who was born about 1900.

Fruit Color: Red
Special Groups: "Epic" Tomatoes
Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ An impressive tomato
By Dean Felkins on August 1, 2022

Large meaty tomatoes with few seeds and excellent taste. Produced well, held up to extreme heat, no signs of blossom end rot. Will grow again.

★★★★★ Tasty tomatoes

Our summers our really hot (105 degree temps) and dry/humid, but before and after the heat, this plant thrives and produces juicy, flavorful roma like tomatoes. Best tomatoes we've ever tasted.
