90 to 100 days — 'Palla Rossa' radicchio produces tight heads that grow up to four inches in diameter. The heads have dark-green outer leaves, red inner leaves, and white ribs. It is a non-forcing variety. Radicchio (pronounced rah-dee-key-oh) is a leaf-type chicory that is sometimes known as Italian chicory. Grown as a leaf vegetable, it has a bitter and spicy taste which tends to mellow after being roasted or grilled. In Italy, is is popular grilled in olive oil and served.
Best sown in early spring for use as baby greens, or in mid-to-late summer for an autumn harvest of mature heads. Requires protection from the Sun for best results. Each packet contains one gram, which is approximately 450 seeds.
