Sow mugwort seeds directly in the fall for spring growth, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost. Cold stratifying the seeds in the refrigerator for 2–4 weeks can help improve germination. Since mugwort seeds need light to germinate, do not cover them with soil—press them gently into the surface for good seed-to-soil contact. Germination takes 14-21 days. While mugwort tolerates poor soil, it grows best in well-drained conditions.
