Mugwort is a hardy, aromatic perennial herb with silver-green leaves and a slightly bitter flavor. It is traditionally used in East Asian cooking, especially to season meats and poultry. Mugwort is easy to grow and thrives even in poor soil and tough conditions. It dies back in the winter but returns each year, spreading by both self-seeding and underground roots. In addition to its culinary and traditional medicinal uses, mugwort also attracts beneficial insects to the garden.
Please Note: Due to state regulations, Valerian is classified as an invasive species in Maine and is prohibited from being cultivated. As a result, we are unable to ship Valerian to addresses in Maine.

Sow mugwort seeds directly in the fall for spring growth, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost. Cold stratifying the seeds in the refrigerator for 2–4 weeks can help improve germination. Since mugwort seeds need light to germinate, do not cover them with soil—press them gently into the surface for good seed-to-soil contact. Germination takes 14-21 days. While mugwort tolerates poor soil, it grows best in well-drained conditions.
