Missouri Pink Love Apple Tomato
Price: $3.45
SKU: 3404011Introduced to seed savers by Ron Thuma of Kansas who received this variety in 1992 from George and Bessie Jennings of Waverly, Kansas. The Jennings' told how an ancestor of theirs, "Grandpa Barnes," started growing this variety as an ornamental because he believed tomatoes to be poisonous - that was in the 1860s.
Fruit Color: Purple
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.
Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

These tomatoes in particular do seem to get tiny "galaxy spots" around the shoulders and top mid rib section of the tomatoes that is in my opinion genetic. They can be seen right here in the very picture displayed on the site. I've grown these out the past couple years both from Victory Seed and SSE stock and they seem to always have this. They do not have anything wrong with them doing this, I think it makes them beautiful. They do not have anything resembling apple flavor, that is the good old power of suggestion playing tricks on you. This tomato has a very solid middle of the road, old fashioned pink tomato flavor. Excellent for it's history and great for fresh eating, slicing for sandwiches, great for dehydrating.

Our tomatoes have a hint of apple taste to them, which is very fun. My tomatoes have some tiny rust colored spots on the outside skin and am wondering if that is a trait or if I am doing something wrong? I don't feel that I can rate them until I find out about the tiny rust pin spots on them
