Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.
Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

I grow these every year for at least five years, my favorite pink tomato. Does well even with our high temperatures.

Mallee Rose is truly an incredible tomato. I have been gardening for over 35 years and took a chance by growing 3 mallee Rose plants last summer in different soil & systems. Alaska buckets, kratky hydroponics and in the earth, and each plant produced the same extremely flavorful fruit. After growing & sampling many many different tomatoes myself over the years of my own and at Craig LeHoullier's Tomato Palooza organization, when it was here in Raleigh, I found it to be second to none, and for me it even grows and tastes superior to brandywine which falls to disease in my area and never produces more than a few maters. Besides being totally irresistible it needs no pruning and grows to about 4 feet over 6-7 months as it focusses on cranking out unending supplies of these incredibly tasting tomatoes! I shared seeds with 4 of my 5 gardener siblings to grow this year (one sibling only buys plants from walmart). The fruit was not a purple variety, I grow them too, it was a pinkish slightly translucent tomato that tasted irresistible. And they were very productive and lived as long as some hybrids that I grow for longevity like Big Beef. For me Mallee Rose is simply perfect, it was the #1 best tasting tomato I grew last year and sought them out when looking for taste.

I grew this tomato for the first time. It grew great in a container. The tomatoes were juicy and very tasty. It had a nice sweet flavor. I will grow this plant again.

Anyone who enjoys the mild, sweet flavor of the German Johnson or Ponderosa type beefsteak tomatoes will really like Mallee Rose. The oblate fruit can grow to quite a good size, and the texture and flavor are delightful. Plant health, fruit set, and productivity are all impressive.
