Mala Bishka Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3402671

90 days, semi-determinate - 'Mala Bishka' has compact, regular leaf plants that produce red, beefsteak-type fruit that range in weight from about eight ounces to over a pound or more. Excellent fresh eating quality and flavor.

While in the Peace Corps, 'Mala Bishka' was collected by Steve Neumann of Pueblo, Colorado in the village of Kalugerica in Eastern Macedonia, the former Yugoslavia. He sent seeds to Dr. Carolyn Male (NY MA C) in 2009 who subsequently offered them through SSE in 2011 and sent us a sample.

Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Growth Habit: Determinate
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
