Lubnani Summer Squash

Cucurbita pepo

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3370401

55 days — Also known as 'Lebanese White Bush' and 'White Vegetable Marrow.' A bush-type summer squash with quick maturing fruit that have an excellent, sweet flavor, weigh one to two pounds and look like small honeydew melons.

The flesh is sweet and has been referred to as "the honeydew of squashes." The rinds cook up well and are easily eaten. Very popular in the Middle East. Survives quickly changing climate variations. Each packet contains four grams, which is approximately 24 to 28 seeds.
Planting Instructions: Choose a location that has warm, well-drained and fertile soil. Work in plenty of organic matter and mulch to conserve moisture.

Sow directly into the garden after any threat of frost has past. Sow one inch deep in hills or rows spaced 24 to 30 inches apart.

Harvest when the fruit is six to eight inches long or still tender. Harvest will be lengthened if you keep picking.

★★★★☆ productive and resistant to bugs and disease
By Terri (Missouri, southeast) on May 28, 2023

The plants got massive, 3 feet tall and 8 feet in diameter. I liked the small 3-4 inch squashes. If I missed one and it got 6-8 inches, then the skin was very tough and less flavorful. But I cut the young ones and froze to use later in soups and casseroles, and they were good. It stood up to our heat and humidity, squash vine borers and squash bugs. The powdery mildew that usually takes down my squash didn't bother it.

★★★★★ Delicious squash!

This was our first year growing this variety, and I'm so glad we did. One of my favorite squashes now. Even tender when they get larger, as we discovered after accidentally missing a few when picking; these we missed grew large by the time we found them later, but were still as tender as could be. Grill them on a kitchen counter-type grill with olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano or any other spices you like for a delicious treat!

★★★★★ Delicate texture, perfect for kussa mahshi.

One of my favorite recipes is Lebanese stuffed zucchinis so it was very nice being able to grow these because of their thinner skin and tenderness. Quite a high yielding plant but unfortunately we had squash vine borers really bad last year. Hoping for a better year this year.
