Libby's Pride Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3402461

80 days, indeterminate - The plants have regular leaf foliage and are a good producer. The paste-type fruit are long (up to five inches), red, meaty with few seeds, and often have a pronounced protrusion on the blossom end.

We received our original seed from Dr. Carolyn Male (NY MA C). She detailed its history as being brought to the Cleveland, Ohio area in the 1960s from the Campobasso Province of Italy by Donaldo Morganti. He gave seeds to a business partner named Liberatore "Libby" Noce who in 2006 gave the seeds to Carl Skalak, who named the variety 'Libby's Pride'. Mr. Skalak gave seeds to Dan Misztal who ultimately gave seeds to Dr. Male.
Tomato Uses: Paste
Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ Vigorous Producer
By Janet Colford on August 1, 2018

This tomato variety is what I expected. The plants are super healthy and disease resistant, and each plant is huge and producing prodigiously. One plant has about thirty tomatoes on it. I had gotten this type of tomato from another company (they called it Hogheart) and the flavor was wonderful. I expect these will not disappoint.
