Isbell's New Phenomenal
95 days, indeterminate — Isbell's 'New Phenomenal', sold by some merchants as simply 'Phenomenal', has regular leaf vines that set fruit throughout the season. Its fruit are globe to flattened-globe in shape, red in color, weigh four to twelve ounces each and are delicious, juicy and more sweet than tart.
Introduced by the Isbell Seed Company of Jackson, Michigan in 1933. They described it as follows:
"Here is a new and distinct variety that was developed by a veteran Tomato grower of New York State. The vines are strong and vigorous like Marglobe. The fruit are nearly round or slightly flattened, of large size, always smooth, ripen evenly and are a bright deep scarlet all the way through. They seldom crack and are extremely solid with few seeds. The flavor is most pleasing, being very rich but not sharply acid. It is resistant to both blight and rust."
Our stock was grown out from USDA accession number PI 645092. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
