Iditarod Red Certified Naturally Grown Seed

80 days, dwarf — The plants of 'Iditarod Red' are compact with a stout central stem and have rugose, regular leaf, dark green rugose. The fruit are smooth and round, sometimes slightly flattened-globe shaped, ranging from two to four ounces, and ripen to red with a flavor that is well balanced and pleasant.

Developed between 2006 to 2011 by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" as a selection out of the "Grumpy family" ('Budai Torpe' and 'Black from Tula', cross made in 2006 by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia). A selection grown by Richard Allen of Australia was sent to Sue Bailey of Alaska, who found and named 'Iditarod Red' after the world class dogsled race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. Introduced in 2011. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

★★★★☆ This is a super useful, early, prolific tasty little gem of a tomato
By Craig LeHoullier on February 9, 2022

I wish more people were familiar with this little tomato machine. Bred primarily by our project folks in Australia, you know this is a great variety for shorter season areas. The tomatoes are saladette sized, scarlet red, and really tasty. I think that these are just perfect for salads and skewering for grilling. You don't always need a big or oddly colored tomato...do you?
