Indeterminate. 80-85 Days to maturity. Oxheart is an heirloom tomato variety originating from a small village near Budapest. Plants grow to around 5-6' tall.

The variety is known for its large, meaty pink fruits, often weighing a pound or more. These tomatoes have small seed cavities and soft , meaty pink flesh, making them excellent for slicing, canning, sauces, and roasting. The regular-leaf plants are heavy producers and show strong resistance to cracking.

Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ Meaty Delicious Oxheart Tomatoes
By Amy Chen-Huang (Silver Spring, MD) on August 19, 2026

Great extra large pink oxheart tomatoes! The largest tomato I have grown in years (got one Hungarian Heart tomato at 26 oz). This tomato plant give large meaty, balance (sweet and acidity [expected of a pink tomato]), and super sweet tomatoes. This tomato is excellent for fresh eating and canning. As for the plant, it has fine growth but not the most disease resistant (got early blight in the middlenof June in zone 7b). All of the tomatoes I have picked weight more than 16 oz. The downside is that because of its fruit size; it takes a long time to mature tomatoes. From one plant, I had obtain 4 fruits. Next year, I will need to grow multiple Hungarian Heart tomato plants for more fruit production. Definitely a "Must grow tomato variety" for next year. Highly recomend!
