Glamour Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3400101

74 days, indeterminate — 'Glamour' is an early to mid-season, productive, regular leaf plant that sets heavy clusters of red, six ounce fruit that are almost globe-shaped, solid and crack resistant. It is a nice choice for canning but also deliver a tasty, classic, tart flavor for fresh eating.

Bred by the Birds-Eye Horticultural Research Laboratories, Albion, New York as a stabilized cross between 'Burgess Crackproof' and 'Sioux'. It was originally introduced commercially by the Joseph Harris Co., Rochester, New York. Released in 1957.

Although it was developed specifically for the Northeast and the Midwestern United States, it seems to be well-suited for nearly any location.

Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ My favorite for canning -- I<3 Glamours!!

Glamours always shock me at how resilient they are especially to cracking in our unpredictable Michigan weather. They are my favorite go-to tomato for canning and their acidic flavor which I love. There is nothing better than picking one of these right off the vine and eating it on the spot and you will have bunches to choose from because they are very high yielding. They would make a good container tomato too for the patio or deck with a little support.
