Glacier Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3402141

55 days, determinate - 'Glacier' has potato leaf plants that set beautiful, red, globe-shaped fruit that weigh between one to three ounces and that are tasty and sweet. A very early variety.

Along with 'Siberia', Glacier is another extra early variety popularized by Ron Driskill, a horticulture teacher at the Jack James Secondary School in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who founded The Siberia Seed Company.
Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Early/Short Season
Growth Habit: Determinate
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.

★★★★★ Hard Working Tomato
By Debra Leschke on March 15, 2015

This variety almost always provides my first tomatoes of the season. The first year I grew it, I was surprised that it continued to produce through the hot, dog days when many varieties no longer set fruit. I've been planting at least one or two of these for years. The tomatoes are fairly small, but taste decent and the plants are always still loaded with tomatoes when we expect our first frost. Most of the still green tomatoes I pull at that time will gradually ripen inside and extend the season.
