Earthwalker Sunflower

Earthwalker sunflower seeds grow into tall, branching plants with flowers in warm, earthy colors. Blooms range from deep orange and gold to coppery brown, mahogany, terracotta, and rusty red, with some flowers leaning toward a rich brown. This open-pollinated heirloom reaches 5 to 7 feet tall. The main heads can measure 9 to 10 inches across, and vigorous side branches produce many smaller blooms, so each plant gives plenty of flowers from summer into early fall.

Earthwalker works well as a cut flower, since the side branches have long stems for bouquets and arrangements. In the garden, its height makes it a good fit for the back of a border, along a fence, or in a meadow planting. The flowers supply pollen and nectar for bees, including bumblebees, and for butterflies. Once the blooms fade, leave some seed heads standing to feed goldfinches, cardinals, chickadees, and jays into fall. These sunflowers are easy to grow in full sun and do well in most soil types.
