SKU: 3405241I bought these seeds as an open-pollinated replacement of Sungolds. Now, these are not as sweet as Sungolds, but they are pretty close! As for the flavor, these are a winner for me. They have a flavor similar to the Lemon Ice tomato, which I love dearly. It is intense, umami and sweet-sour. Not only that, but they were also the first and last tomatoes to produce for me here in NJ 6b/7a. I got ripe tomatoes in late June! They shrugged off the drought and topped out my trellis. These are very vigorous for a dwarf tomato, matching my other cherry tomatoes in height on my trellis, only outdone by Black Cherry. They were fairly resistant to cracking, but still, some had cracking because of the lack of rain this year, not as much as Black Cherry or Super Sweet 100. These were by far the most productive of my tomatoes and they didn't die off until frosts came. Because of the freak weather this year, I actually harvested some off of my plant in December! As a bonus the yellow coloring does not attract the animals as much. All in all, an excellent tomato that I would recommend giving a try.
This one was kind of disappointing because the flavor didn't live up to the hype. The compact plant put out an insane amount of large, juicy, clear pale yellow fruits, all season and was still going when everything else was done for the season. The flavor was very mild, not tart or tomatoey, but lacked the intense sweetness and flavor from the description and other reviews. It tasted good and I would grow it again just as something reliable and productive, but I would have liked it more if I hadn't had such high expectations.
Plants performed well with plenty (almost too much) tomatoes (yellow) and the size of a half dollar. Interesting...not sorry we tried them.
I grew 5 of these plants this year. Very productive. Handled disease pretty well. They are still producing daily here in Central PA in mid-August. I liked the flavor although opinions of others I shared some with, were not always so favorable. Skin is a bit thick, but they still did a fair amount of cracking when the remnants of a recent Hurricane came through. I have one plant growing in our towns Community Garden. I rarely get any tomatoes from that plant as it's always picked clean. So, somebody is a fan of this tomato ;)
Planted in 2023 in full sun, full production into deep fall. Flavor comparable to a Sun Gold. Generous bushy growth without sprawling. Lots to like about this variety.
Had 6 to live, thought they were dead but took off like kudzo when temps warmed and very heavy producers, like eating plums, I am 71 but will always grow these yellow tomato's, along with SS100 these two are at the top of my list.
Like others, I had difficulty getting this one started. My seedlings struggled and looked more or less dead. I stuck one into a bag of leftover soil anyways and it not only took off, but has been quite prolific. It only has about 3 gallons of potting media and I continuously have a handful of cherry tomatoes ripening on my counter. These are continuing to set and ripen even in 90F+ heat. The flavor is very good, although I would not call them "sugary" unless they are at absolute peak ripeness, to the point of being nearly overripe. I'd say it's an initial sweet hit with a bright finish, kind of like champagne vinegar. Great on a salad or as a refreshing snack. It does have a fairly thick skin. I don't notice it in a salad, but if you're eating the tomato alone it's definitely noticeable. I'm not ready to call it an "every year" tomato but I will happily grow it again.
I grew Dwarf Eagle Smiley for the first time last year. I had heard about the Dwarf Tomato Project and was intrigued since I only have a post-stamp-sized growing space and always welcome compact varieties. This tomato--it blew me away! The seeds germinated beautifully. The plants were vigorous, with thick leaves that stayed disease-free the entire summer. The plant pumped out a bounty of tomatoes deep into the fall. Even with only two plants, I had plenty of fruit to enjoy fresh and still more to freeze for the winter months. These tomatoes taste divine and incredibly flavorful, with the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. The taste is pretty addictive. I am growing them again in the 2024 season. Even though it is only January, I already dream of the day in July when I pluck the first Dwarf Eagle Smiley from the vine.
Dwarf Smiley is the most flavorful cherry tomato I have encountered in fifty+ years of seasonal gardening. First tried it last year. It grew well over the winter and provided plenty of fruit in north-central Florida. I'm coming back for a refill.
Last plant left in garden. Still making loads of fruit, grew two, one in a10gal pot one in the ground. the one in the ground grew and grew. It took over a vego bed.no disease just tasty fruit, HUNDREDS OF THEM. Never had so many tomatoes on one plant even multifloras. Not a dwarf in the ground, but one of the best cherry tomatoes ever produced.
Dwarf Eagle Smiley is a sunny yellow cherry with a nice tomatoey mix of sweet and acid flavors. It germinates well and produces fruit early. So far, this and other dwarf-tomato-project plants are healthier than the regular tomato plants growing in our coastal-fog-belt garden. This is a huge, because mildew, blight and other diseases prey on tomatoes here. The dwarf size is a plus for container growing, too. Would grow this again and recommend it to other gardeners.
One of my favorite cherry tomatoes! I like to think of it as a big tomato taste in a cherry tomato--intense combination of sweet, acid and richness--try them at different ripeness levels to find your perfect fruit. These are fairly tall for a dwarf tomato and are very heavy producers.
We love this variety. Great germination rate! We moved it to a partially shaded area in our yard and it's doing great. It's early July and we are getting ripe fruit. It is slightly sweet and works great in salad. Easily one of the best cherry tomatoes we have tasted. Will definitely add to our garden next year.
Iโve been on a quest to find a cherry tomato I like. I donโt typically care for that tart gush you get when you bite into most cherries. Craig L. Sent me the seeds for these last year before they were officially released and I was excited to grow them as one of my first varieties from the Dwarf Tomato project. I grew one in the greenhouse and one outside. The one in the greenhouse has produced slightly smaller cherries that really pack a punch when it comes to sweetness! The ones in the garden are slightly larger with a bit of meatiness to them, but the same amazing flavor! I will definitely be growing these every year.
Think the general universe of the hybrid Sun Gold in flavor - but situate that flavor on a nice tidy, super prolific dwarf plant, with bright yellow round cherry tomatoes with a very pale yellow flesh. It sets fruit great, resists foliage diseases well - but the FLAVOR - intense, bright, complex, refreshing - utterly delicious!
