Dwarf Choemato Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $3.95

SKU: 3405371

80 days, dwarf — The rugose, potato leaf plants of 'Dwarf Choemato' produce high yields of medium to large (six to twelve ounce), smooth, oblate shaped, yellow tomatoes with red swirls and streaks that run into the flesh. The meaty tomatoes possess a well-balanced, mildly sweet, delicious flavor. The plants average about four feet in height, and due to the high yields and weight of the tomatoes, 'Dwarf Choemato' does benefit from sturdy support.

The Dwarf Tomato Project's "Ivalde" family originated from a cross made by Soren Linnemann between the indeterminate variety 'Vjerino Paradajiz Sjeme' and 'Wherokowhai'. Many volunteers worked on the Ivalde line, but Linda Black selected and C. Jason Liang named 'Dwarf Choemato'. Craig LeHoullier, Bill Minkey, Mike Dunton and John Dunton are the other contributors. It was introduced by the Victory Seed Company in 2022. Each packet contains at least 20 seeds.

★★☆☆☆ Never produced fruit
By Sharon White (southern New Mexico) on February 23, 2025

I seeded and transplanted to containers 8 of these plants. They bloomed all season like crazy, even in 100 plus temps, but not once set any fruit. I think it may have been our hot and arid region they don't adapt well. I did use shade cloth, put on east side of the house, and other protections but to no avail. However, on a different note, I seeded and transplanted Dwarf Mocha Cherry tomatoes and they produced all summer, even in the heat, and were one of my favorite. I am curious why this happened with the Choemato.

★★★★★ Big and Beautiful!
By DV (SF Bay Area) on August 7, 2024

Very pleased with Choemato this year. The plant is prolific, producing a great crop of flavorful tomatoes. Most are well over 12 ounces with a few 1lb+. About 3 or 4 of them had major catfacing but all the rest were nicely uniform. Disease tolerance was pretty good too. I will definitely grow this one again.

★★★★★ Large, colorful, delicious bicolored dwarf tomatoes on an attractive potato leaf plant
By Craig LeHoullier (Hendersonville, NC) on September 6, 2023

Anyone who loves Dwarf Awesome will love this tomato (and vice versa). As part of the same family, this can be considered a potato leaf version of Awesome. Richly flavored, productive and beautiful, it is a superb tomato.

★★★★★ Wow

Of all the DTP tomatoes this one takes that cake for plant vigor and bloom set. The leaves are so dense and dark it looks like kale. I will be growing this again. Might try to hydroponic it in the winter.
