SKU: 340422180 days, dwarf — The rugose, regular leaf plants of 'Dwarf Awesome' produce high yields of six to eight ounce, round to oblate-shaped, deep yellow colored tomatoes with red blushing. Slicing them open reveals juicy flesh displaying combinations of oranges, yellows, pinks, and reds with green seed cavities. Describing its flavor, the developer of 'Dwarf Awesome' stated, "Oh my goodness ... a solid 9.0, sweet but not mild, has a little zing."
Part of the "Dwarf Tomato Project," Soren Linnemann created the "Ivalde" family by crossing 'Vjerino Paradajiz Sjeme' with 'Wherokowhai' in 2011. Many volunteers worked on the Ivalde line, but Linda Black was solely responsible for the selection and stabilization work for 'Dwarf Awesome'. In recounting the naming process, Linda noted that it was her daughter that called it "awesome" and the name stuck. Bill Minkey produced the seed for its initial release, which was introduced by the Victory Seed Company for the 2018 gardening season. Each packet contains at least 20 seeds.
Aptly named and my favorite tomato of the 2024 growing season. Grew is 5 gallon container and produced 5-8 ounce slicers. Like most tomatoes, really disliked wet feet. Sweet and meaty, great for fresh eating. Great in tomato sandwiches, salads, or just with a sprinkle of salt.
I grew this indoors in a hydroponic bato bucket system. Pros: - Vigorous plant - Strong stems, doesn't fall over easily - BIG tomatoes. Somewhere between a Brandywine and a Cherokee Purple - Fairly productive, especially when you consider how big the toms are - Good texture - soft and delicate, but not mushy or mealy Neutral: - Tomatoes have an unusual winey or yeasty flavor. Not bad, but unusual - Pretty large for a dwarf tomato. Mine just kept growing and growing Cons: - Nearly all of my tomatoes split open near the stem. They are in hydroponics, so uneven watering is not a concern, but this may not be an issue in soil.
I had a little trouble with this one, i started 3 plants and had a horiffic case of aphids in my plant starting area, I accepted some plants from a gardening friend of mine and in my inexperience just stuck em in my plant room without quarantine. The resulting aphidsplosion claimed a bunch of my starts but i got it under control by splitting my plants up and hitting everything with pyrethrins, diamataceous earth, physically brushing them off, and anything else anyone recomended. I got it under controll but 3 of my dwarf awesome starts got eaten alive, two died but one had an intact growing tip so i left it. It seemed to recover and really took off once i got it outside. the fruits like to split whenever we get rain. Other then that, god damm this tomato is awesome, it looks awesome, It was savory with a notable sweetness, I let mine get really ripe on the countertop. it was one of my better producers in the garden. I'm growing these next year.
This very prolific dwarf variety produces absolutely delicious yellow/red streaked oblate fruit that can reach one pound. The flavor is full, intense and rich - among the best flavored of the dwarf varieties.
