Dixville Tomato

75 days, determinate - 'Dixville' plants are compact, reach about three feet tall and have regular-type leaves that curl upwards. Its fruit are flattened-globe shaped, red in color, and weigh from 2 to 6 ounces. They have a firm skin, are juicy but meaty, and slightly tart with sweet undertones. Along with early fruit to eat fresh, 'Dixville' is a good selection for those with shorter seasons looking to process and can.

Bred by the Department of Horticulture at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, and originally introduced commercially in 1950 by the Billy Hepler Seed Company. In his catalog that year, Billy exclaimed, "Dr. Yeager has done it again." He went on to state, "This new tomato is larger than 'Early Catham, as early as 'Window Box', bright red in color. In the UNH Horticulture Farm tests many plants yielded 100 or more tomatoes which started ripening in late July."

Donated to the USDA's collection in 1961 by the University of New Hampshire as accession number NSSL 6881 (renumbered PI 644803), our original sample was obtained from the USDA by Mike Dunton and grown out exclusively for the Victory Seed Company for re-introduction to the gardening public for the 2025 season.
