Dixville Tomato
Price: $4.45
SKU: 34047731Bred by the Department of Horticulture at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, and originally introduced commercially in 1950 by the Billy Hepler Seed Company. In his catalog that year, Billy exclaimed, "Dr. Yeager has done it again." He went on to state, "This new tomato is larger than 'Early Catham, as early as 'Window Box', bright red in color. In the UNH Horticulture Farm tests many plants yielded 100 or more tomatoes which started ripening in late July."
Donated to the USDA's collection in 1961 by the University of New Hampshire as accession number NSSL 6881 (renumbered PI 644803), our original sample was obtained from the USDA by Mike Dunton and grown out exclusively for the Victory Seed Company for re-introduction to the gardening public for the 2025 season.
Growth Habit: Determinate
Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.
Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
