Price: $3.45
SKU: 1001741Also known as "Sulfur Cosmos," or "Klondyke Mix", 'Bright Lights' add shades of yellow and orange colors to your gardens and beds. Since they can reach six feet tall, be sure to plant them in an appropriate location such as at the back of a garden or flower bed. If you prefer order in your yard, you may need to stake and tie to keep them upright.
With the soil temperature at 75ºF, germination occurs in seven to twenty-one days. Flowering usually begins about sixty days after sprouting with their blooming period lasting for about ten weeks, from summer into the fall.
Although partial shade is tolerated, as a native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, they prefer sunny, well-drained, soil leaning to the alkaline side of the pH scale (6.0-8.5 pH). Once they are up and growing, they tolerate heat and drought.
The flowers are attractive to butterflies and other pollinators. Since birds like the seeds, leave plants in beds over winter to provide a food source.

Genetic Classification: Open Pollinated
Cosmos are easily grown from seed. They germinate quickly and can be sown directly into the ground with great success after the danger of frost is past. Barely cover the seed with soil as they need some light to germinate. Cosmos will self-seed if you don't deadhead them.
Cosmos will tolerate overcrowding but prefer spacing of at least 1 foot. They bloom in the summer into the fall, and prefer partially sunny and dry locations.
