Centaurea cyanus
Cornflowers, also known as 'Bluebonnet' and 'Bachelor's Buttons', are an excellent choice for planting in beds and along borders and can be used as cut flowers. They are quite hardy and bloom from May through summer and into the fall if planted in early spring. Preferring sunny, well-drained locations, the plants will grow from twelve to thirty six inches in height.
Cornflowers are native to Europe and found growing wild in grain ("corn") fields, hence the name. They are said to have arrived in America between 1700 and 1750. Each packet contains 0.5 gram, which is approximately 100 seeds.
