Burpee Improved Bush Lima

75 days โ€” The beans are fatter than 'Fordhook' Lima beans. There are typically three to five pale green seeds per four to five inch long pod. The pods are borne in clusters of five to six pods. Introduced by W. Atlee Burpee Seed Company in 1907. Each packet contains one ounce, which is approximately 20 seeds.
Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it.
Planting Instructions: Beans prefer well-drained, rich soil in a sunny location. Make sure that you keep them well watered in the summer heat. Beans are tender and you should not plant them until all danger of frost has passed and the soil remains above 65ยบF. Sow seeds 1ยฝ inches deep, every 2 to 3 inches.

Harvest when the pods are well-filled and firm, but still bright green in appearance. To dry, allow them to remain on the vine until brittle. If rain threatens, harvest and finish drying indoors.

โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜† Very Disappointing
By Laurie T (Wichita, KS) on September 6, 2024

Germination rate of about 60%. Plants grew well, loads of blooms, but very few pods formed. NONE of the pods developed beans. I planted a couple other varieties of beans in the same conditions that did great. Don't know why these did not produce. Do not recommend.

This was our first time planting Lima Beans. We planted them in 2 gardens and the one in full sun germinated and grew great. The ones in my shadier flower garden never germinated. I wasted many of these beans because we had no clue how to prepare these to eat but the pods were nice and large and they produced well into the end of the season. For 2014 we will stick with green beans though.
