Burgess Mammoth Wonder
85 days, indeterminate — A nice full flavored variety that is meaty but not dry, slightly acidic (tart) with complex aftertastes. 'Burgess Mammoth Wonder' fruit are oblate in shape and reach up to twenty ounces in weight.
As its name alludes, it was bred and released by the old Burgess Seed and Plant Company of Galesburg, Michigan and was introduced in 1955. 'Burgess Mammoth Wonder' was developed the old fashioned way . . . through years of selective breeding; eight generations to be exact. Its pedigree is a cross between 'Marglobe', 'Bonny Best', and a unknown pink uniform-color variety. We grew our stock out from USDA ARS accession number PI 270261. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it.
