55 days — The plants reach fourteen to sixteen inches in height and are erect at first but more drooping and spreading as the pods mature. They are vigorous and moderately productive and produce over a longer period than most bush-type varieties.

The pods are six inches long, pale green ripening to a light golden-yellow color, stringless, fleshy, fiberless, with fine texture and as its name implies, brittle. The seeds are white with black eyes. It is an excellent choice for home gardens, market growers, and canning.

'Brittle Wax' is the result of a stabilized cross between 'Black-eyed Wax' with 'Round-pod Refugee'. It was originally introduced in 1901 by Johnson & Stokes and the following year, the name was changed to 'Brittle Wax'. Each packet contains one ounce, which is approximately 120 seeds.

Planting Instructions:
Beans prefer well-drained, rich soil in a sunny location. Make sure you keep them well watered in the summer heat.

Beans are a tender vegetable and you should not plant them until all danger of frost has passed and the soil remains above 65ºF. Sow seeds 1-1½ inches deep, every two to three inches. Bush-type beans do not require support.

For seed saving, allow pods to remain on the plant until they are brittle and open easily. However, if you live in an area with a short growing season, harvest as close to dry as possible and finish drying indoors. Rain and freezing temps will damage beans.
