Black-Eyed Susan is a well known wildflower that is common throughout the eastern half of the United States. It inhabits open woods, prairies, roadsides and disturbed areas. It can also occasionally be found in mountain meadows of the western U.S. It grows as an annual, biennial or short-lived perennial. Flowers are bright yellow with a distinctive dark center. Recommended for home gardens and for cut flowers. Attracts honey bees and wild bees and is the larval host for the Gorgone Checkerspot and Bordered Patch butterflies.

Sow the seed in early spring through summer, up until two months before first fall frost. Choose an area that receives full sun and has rich soil. If the seeds are cold conditioned moist for about 2 weeks, germination will improve.
