Bell's German Pink Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3405161

90 days, indeterminate - The slightly wispy, regular leaf plants of 'Bell's German Pink' are very productive. The fruit are pink, oblate to blunt heart-shaped, and large. Eight to twenty ounce fruit are typical but one-pounders are plentiful. The flavor is on the sweet side and mild with dense flesh making this a fantastic sauce tomato, as well as for slicing.

We received our original seed sample in early 2021 from Craig LeHoullier who received the tomato in 2019 from a gardener named Julie Overman from Indiana. She described how her father, William "Mike" Overman had been stewarding the tomato since the early 2000s after receiving it from a friend of his from church in Bloomington, Indiana named Don Bell[1]. Mike always referred to it simply as the "German Tomato." Introduced by the Victory Seed company for the 2022 gardening season.
Fruit Color: Pink
Fruit Color: Purple
Harvest Timing: Late Season
Sow seeds indoors (do not direct sow into the garden), using sterile seed starting mix, 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected frost date. Plant 1/4" deep, water lightly but keep moist until emergence.

Full light and cooler temps (60° to 70°) will help to prevent the seedlings from becoming too leggy. If plants become rootbound before you can safely set them into the ground, transplant them into larger pots.

Harden off plants before planting outside. Young plants are very susceptible to frost and sunburn damage. Avoid too much nitrogen. Water evenly but not in excess.
