De Giorgi Acme

70 days, indeterminate — In our search for old Livingston tomato varieties, we often grow out tomatoes from the same era with similar names.

We know very little about the history of the De Giorgi Brother's Seed Company of Council Bluffs, Iowa other than they were in business in the early 1900s and a contemporary of the A. W. Livingston Seed Company. Their 'Acme' tomato is not similar to Livingston's but it is beautiful and tasty.

Large fruited (up to twenty ounces) for such an early maturing fruit. They are oblate, red, mild slightly acidic flavored, firm skinned, and meaty. Grown out from USDA ARS accession number NSL 193979. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Early/Short Season

★★★★★ Garden star

I had never heard of this variety until exploring this website but man am I glad I bought some seeds. This plant started out super lush, very green with a super sturdy center. I was worried all those leaves would prohibit fruiting but did it ever explode! Sizes ranged from about a pingpong to nearly softball sized lobed fruits that are very meaty and super flavorful. I'm just bummed stupid spider mites in the bed from an eggplant got on them. This is definitely a keeper! I've used them in salads, BLTs and even to make a fresh pasta sauce.

★★★★★ Great germination and solid production

I had a good experience with these tomatoes this year. I had perfect, 100% germination which I was not expecting. I was able to give several plants to all my neighbors which was quite fun. I had ten for myself which did fairly well considering the extreme variability in rain. Most of them split but were VERY flavourful. I'd definitely try them again.
