Tennessee Suited Open Source Seed Initiative

80 days, dwarf — 'Tennessee Suited' is a vigorous, rugose, regular leaf variety that produces fruit that are a rich purple color (clear skinned black) with green stripes. They are medium-sized (four to ten ounce), smooth, oblate in shape, very juicy and tender with a delicious, well-balanced flavor that is neither too tart or too sweet. It should be noted that there is some variability in shape, with some fruit being deeply lobed. As with any thin-skinned pink/purple variety, the fruit are somewhat prone to radial cracking if exposed to wet weather conditions.

Developed by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" from a cross between 'Rosella Purple' and 'Pink Berkeley Tie Dye'. It was selected and named by Patrina Nuske Small of Australia in 2009 and named "Tidy." Those who contributed to the development of 'Adelaide Festival' were Patrina, Craig LeHoullier, Ted Maiden, Sue Bailey, Bill Yoder, Doug Frank, and Bill Minkey. Introduced in 2016. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

★★★★☆ A staple in my tomato garden
By Lu (Southern California) on January 18, 2025

I have grown a few dwarf varieties, but this one is the best I have tried in terms of production and taste. I have saved the seeds and grown for a few years from saved seeds. Thought I should get some seeds again from a supplier. Plants grow well and I like the stripes. My Tennessee friend enjoys them too!

★★★★★ Late, But Ohhhh - the Taste!
By Gail (East TN) on March 11, 2023

When I moved to Tennessee four years ago, I decided to get as many "Tennessee" varieties as I could. I didn't get around to trying Tennessee Suited until the 2022 season. Compared to its companions in a raised bed, Tennessee Suited was late to flower and produce (in fact, I thought it was a loss). But once it started to flower and produce tomatoes -- oh my! The tomatoes were visually beautiful (chocolate/purple with green stripes), but the taste was even more amazing! Rich and heirloom-tomato taste. It didn't hurt that they were nice-sized at around 10 ounces on average.

I grow around 20-25 tomato varieties every year and I don't grow many of them as staples year over year. I am growing Tennessee Suited again this year, and if it produces like it did last year, it will become a staple in my tomato garden.

★★★★☆ A slight variation on Adelaide Festival, and a gorgeous tomato
By Craig LeHoullier on February 9, 2022

Similar to Adelaide Festival, this medium to slightly larger sized purple tomato has lovely greenish vertical stripes. The flavor is similarly balanced and lovely. The plant produces well. If you like the flavor and appearance of Adelaide Festival but it is challenging for your area, give this one a chance. It is a fine tomato
