75 days to maturity. Super Chili pepper reach about 15 inches tall and can produce up to 300 peppers each. Being short plants they work well in containers, on patios, and in small garden beds. The peppers are cone shaped, about 2 1/2 inches long, and grow pointing upward, sitting above the leaves. As they ripen, they change from pale green to orange to red, and one plant often shows all of these colors at the same time. This mix of colors is why Super Chili is often grown as an edible ornamental. It is a Thai Dragon type pepper.
Super Chili peppers have thin, hot flesh. Heat ratings usually fall between 35,000 and 40,000 Scoville heat units, with some growers reporting up to 50,000. That puts it 5-10x the heat of a jalapeno and close to a cayenne. The peppers can be used fresh, dried, or pickled. They are popular in Thai and other Asian dishes and also work well in salsas, hot sauces, and marinades. Dried peppers can be crushed into homemade chili flakes. Super Chili was an All-America Selections® national winner in 1988.

Sow seeds in sterile potting mix, eight weeks prior to your last expected frost date. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two times their thickness. The optimum soil temperature is 80°F. Germination can be erratic. The most common cause of poor germination is the result of uneven planting depths.
Transplant only after night temperatures average above 55°F. Plants are tender and thrive in warm weather. Blossoms drop if temperatures fall below 60°F or if they get too much nitrogen.
