68 days - In the category of "snowball-type" cauliflower varieties, 'Snowball Self-Blanching', as its name implies, has large wrapper leaves that curl inwards in the cool fall weather. This trait serves to help cover and protect the head and to help keep it blanched pure white in color. Because of this trait, 'Snowball Self-Blanching' does not require tying until heads are six to eight inches across, and that is only if you are a commercial producer. Here on our farm, for our personal use, we don't bother tying and as you can see in the photo, the heads remain a very bright white.
The flavor is mild and tasty both raw and cooked. It is an excellent snack to have in the refrigerator for those that desire crunchy, filling treats that also happen to be very nutritious and low in calories.

Planting Instructions:
Best results will be had if you start your plants indoors in mid-March to May. Soil temperature should be about 70ºF for germination. Plant ¼ inch deep in potting mix. Keep seedling moist and feed them.
Transplant out at six weeks after danger of frost has past. They like soil loaded with organic matter a pH of about 6.5. Avoid providing too much nitrogen.
Use insect controls as you would for other cole (Brassica family) plants in your area.
