Salsa

70 days, determinate — 'Salsa' matures early in the season and is very productive. Its fruit are globe-shaped, uniform in size, weigh about six ounces each, are bright red in color, solid, and tasty. As the name implies, its flesh to juice ratio is perfect for making fresh salsa.

We don't know a lot about this variety's history other than we purchased our original seed back in the late 1990s from the now defunct, Carolina Seed Company of Boone, North Carolina. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Early/Short Season
Genetic Classification: Determinate and Semi-Determinate

★★★★★ Great for salsa and reliability
By Abi Beutler on November 10, 2018

These are pretty small plants but they produce a large crop. They are one of the earliest to ripen. The fruit have classic strong tomato flavor and are very hard, making them ideal for chopping and keeping their shape. I grew these two years in a row, but not this past year and regretted it. It is a dependable tomato. I like to grow two to three dependable varieties each year (Salsa and Stupice) and then several new but wow factor tomatoes that are a bit more unpredictable (like Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, and Kellogg's Breakfast).

★★★★★ A Must Have for my garden
By Paula Lynch on January 2, 2016

These tomatoes are small, firm, and compact. They are less juicy than eating varieties, but are still good in salads and sandwiches. They keep their shape and texture better than other varieties when cooked. I have planted Salsa tomatoes in my garden every year for the past six or seven years. Highly recommend!

★★★★★ Really Ugly Little Plant. . .Really Great for Salsa!
By Katrina Scala on February 15, 2014

I planted this tomato hoping for some great salsa tomatoes. They are ugly little plants and I thought something was wrong with them,(my Amish Paste and Ukranian Oxhearts are large and beautiful) but when I began cutting the tomatoes for salsa I was truly impressed with their taste and ability to stand up in a canned salsa. I highly recommend this tomato for salsa lovers!
