Rocky Mountain Penstemon is a perennial plant native to the Rocky Mountain region, thriving in pinyon-pine, sagebrush, and aspen-conifer communities at elevations up to 9,500 feet. It blooms from early to mid-summer, showcasing numerous purple flowers on tall stalks. This plant prefers well-draining soil and full sun or light shade. Rocky Mountain Penstemon is excellent for pollinator gardens, beds, borders, and rock gardens, attracting honey bees and wild bees. It is also very drought-tolerant. Each packet contains 0.1 grams, which is about 100 seeds.

Sow outdoors 6 to 8 weeks before your average last frost date or in late fall. If starting indoors, do so 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, as seeds germinate best in cooler soils around 55°F. Expect germination in 14 to 35 days. Plant seeds at a depth of ⅛ inch, spacing them in groups of 3 every 18 inches. Once seedlings reach 2 inches tall, thin them to one plant every 18 inches.
