70 days to maturity. Despite the name, it has no heat. The fruits are sweet and crunchy, with shiny, blemish-free orange skin. Each pepper grows 3 to 4 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches wide, with 2 to 3 lobes and a slightly elongated shape. Orange Blaze is a 2011 All-America Selections (AAS) winner. The plants are compact and vigorous, reaching 12 to 14 inches tall, and they adapt well to many growing conditions. Orange Blaze has high resistance to Bacterial Leaf Spot (races 0-3, 7, 8) and Tobamovirus, including Tobacco Mosaic Virus.
Colored peppers can be slow to ripen and tricky to grow, but Orange Blaze reaches full color earlier than many others. In AAS trials across North America, it turned orange ahead of the comparison varieties. The peppers can be picked green at about 65 days from transplant, or left on the plant to turn orange, which takes about 70 to 80 days. Flavor and color peak at the same time, so once a pepper is fully orange, it is ready to pick.

Sow seeds in sterile potting mix, eight weeks prior to your last expected frost date. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two times their thickness. The optimum soil temperature is 80°F. Germination can be erratic. The most common cause of poor germination is the result of uneven planting depths.
Transplant only after night temperatures average above 55°F. Plants are tender and thrive in warm weather. Blossoms drop if temperatures fall below 60°F or if they get too much nitrogen.
