SKU: 3402541Ended up with only three healthy Ludmilla plants to put into raised beds, but they have consistently outgrown and outproduced all other tomatoes for me this year. Delicious, meaty red tomatoes the size of my fist from plants over four-and-a-half feet tall and still growing. They've grown out of their wire cages and I have to keep propping them up. Oklahoma heat doesn't faze them. Will have more next year.
I bought the seeds two years ago but didn't plant these until last year. I decided to experiment with direct sowing of six varieties, including 'Ludmilla Red Plum'. I planted the seeds in a new raised bed on May 9th. I covered them with plastic gallon water jugs with the bottoms cut off. All of the seeds sprouted and grew well, but some varieties were better producers than others. This was one of the biggest stars of my experiment!
Not only was this a huge tomato (about 10 to 11 ounces each), it was also very tasty. And since it's indeterminate, it just keeps producing until the frost comes. I enjoyed cooking with this one throughout the summer. At the end of the season I used these together with my 'Speckled Roman' tomatoes (also a bright star in my direct sow experiment) to make a very flavorful sauce.
I will be planting more 'Ludmilla' tomato seeds this year!
