Ludmilla Red Plum Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Price: $2.95

SKU: 3402541

Ludmilla Red Plum

80 days, indeterminate — Regular leaf plants are very productive.  The fruit are large, averaging six to ten ounces, red, and are plum-shaped.  They have an excellent flavor and are good for fresh eating and are meaty with few seeds making them a good choice for canning or sauces.

We received our original seed sample from Dr. Carolyn Male who received it several years prior from Reinhard Kraft of Germany. She told us that this variety was, "Originally from a Kazakhstan German named Ludmilla who had been growing this variety for over fifty years prior to giving it to Reinhard, who named it in her honor."

Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
Fruit Color: Red
Harvest Timing: Main Crop / Mid-Season

★★★★★ Ludmilla outshines.
By Douglas Wilson on July 9, 2019

Ended up with only three healthy Ludmilla plants to put into raised beds, but they have consistently outgrown and outproduced all other tomatoes for me this year. Delicious, meaty red tomatoes the size of my fist from plants over four-and-a-half feet tall and still growing. They've grown out of their wire cages and I have to keep propping them up. Oklahoma heat doesn't faze them. Will have more next year.

★★★★★ Love Ludmilla Tomato!

I bought the seeds two years ago but didn't plant these until last year. I decided to experiment with direct sowing of six varieties, including 'Ludmilla Red Plum'. I planted the seeds in a new raised bed on May 9th. I covered them with plastic gallon water jugs with the bottoms cut off. All of the seeds sprouted and grew well, but some varieties were better producers than others. This was one of the biggest stars of my experiment!

Not only was this a huge tomato (about 10 to 11 ounces each), it was also very tasty. And since it's indeterminate, it just keeps producing until the frost comes. I enjoyed cooking with this one throughout the summer. At the end of the season I used these together with my 'Speckled Roman' tomatoes (also a bright star in my direct sow experiment) to make a very flavorful sauce.

I will be planting more 'Ludmilla' tomato seeds this year!
